In less than ten years, Gamblers Anonymous (AGOG) has grown into the largest self-help organization for gambling addiction in the Netherlands. For this study systematical observations were held on meetings of AGOG. Besides in-depth interviews with staff members of AGOG, addicted gamblers and their relatives were carried out. The aim of the study was to describe the self-help method of Gamblers Anonymous on one hand and to gain experience of the members on the other hand. Although relapse occur on a regular basis, gamblers and their relatives express appreciation for the AGOG activities. They find recognition, understanding and support. The quality of the lives of the addicted gamblers improve, damaged relations with their relatives begin to mend.
